Maserati Logo

Maserati Ghibli grille

The iconic Maserati logo is visually bold, and unlike any others, you’ll see on Great Neck and Jericho streets. So, what does the Maserati logo mean? The trident design of the Maserati logo was inspired by the statue of Neptune in the Piazza Maggiore in Bologna.

Just like Neptune, the Maserati logo captures the universal power, strength, and mastery of the sea – all in one image. Find out more about the Maserati logo’s meaning with the experts at Maserati of Long Island below! Then, browse our available new Maseratis online!

Breaking Down the Maserati Logo

To truly understand the Maserati logo’s meaning, you need to understand where the company was founded and what Neptune’s trident symbolizes. The modern-day Maserati logo is generally depicted in dark gray. However, depending on when and where it appears, the trident may also be shown in white, on a background of navy blue, black, or in one of several shades of gray. On certain vehicles still, the trident is displayed stunningly in red, on a field of white and blue. This “saetta logo”, or lightning in Italian, represents a brighter and more meaningful design:

  • The blue represents the sea—Neptune’s domain and source of strength.
  • The white or silver field represents the land; the space between the seas, where Maserati vehicles rule the roads.
  • The red trident symbolizes the potent force of the Maserati vehicle itself, which delivers unparalleled performance on highways all over the world.

What is the History of the Maserati Logo and Brand?

The Maserati brand was founded in Bologna, Italy in 1914. However, it wasn’t until 1926 that Maserati started manufacturing their own distinct vehicles using the now classic logo. This visually appealing logo came about in 1920.

One of the Maserati brothers was inspired by the suggestion from Marquis Diego de Sterlich, a longtime family friend. Inspired by Neptune’s trident, the logo made its debut six years later on the flagship Tipo 26 model. Although the Maserati headquarters were relocated to Modena in 1940, the trident became irreversibly linked with the brand.
