Where is Maserati From?

Still not sure exactly where Maserati is made? You’ll find that the country Maserati is made it was the town of Bologna, a community in northern Italy. In December 1914, a band of five brothers built one of the world’s premier luxury car brands from the ground up.

The founders, Ernesto, Ettore, Carlo, Bindo, and Alfieri Maserati, relocated the headquarters to Modena, Italy in 1940. That’s where Maserati is made currently, manufacturing genuine Maserati components and vehicles to this day. However, there’s much more to the lore of Maserati than just its humble beginnings:

  • Maserati partners include fashion designers like Bulgari and Ermenegildo Zegna who have a hand in their luxurious interiors, as well as the audio tech company Bowers and Wilkins who design the premium Maserati sound systems.
  • After being owned by a few different parent companies over the decades, it is now owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) as of 1993 and is in a brand group with Alfa Romeo, another Italian luxury car company. FCA is a multi-national Italian/American corporation headquartered in London, UK, and Amsterdam, Netherlands. Since its ownership by FCA, Maserati has been steadily growing in the auto industry.
  • Manufacturing plants include the Agnelli Plant in Grugliasco, Italy (which primarily makes the Quattroporte and Ghibli), and the Mirafiori Plant in Turin, Italy (which primarily makes the Levante SUV). Both these plants are located about three hours north of Modena, close to the French border.
  • The main manufacturing site is in Modena, Italy, which primarily makes models like the GranTurismo, and takes an hour-and-a-half guided tour of the showrooms and factory assembly line.
  • The Maserati mission is to “build ultra-luxury performance automobiles with timeless Italian style, accommodating bespoke interiors, and effortless, signature-sounding power.”
  • The Maserati logo of the trident is a tribute to the famous Fountain of Neptune in the Piazza Maggiore in Bologna. It was designed by Mario Maserati, a brother of the founders who worked as an artist.
